MEANWHILE, IN CHINA……

MEANWHILE, IN CHINA……

There’s a new song out about Allen Iverson, and you should hear it. Philadelphia MC, Zilla Rocca, just released the track, “The Q and the A”, dedicated to the the former league MVP and four time scoring champion. It features a clever Jay-z sample and some honest lyrics detailing an NBA career that ended too soon. ( Is it really over though?)
If you’re too young to remember the “Iverson Era”, this song describes it perfectly. If you were a die hard A.I. fan like me during the late 90’s/early 2000’s, the song will definitely take you back.

Another big sneaker release when down today. What’s that….like four this week alone? Allen Iverson’s 1996 classic signature sneaker, The Reebok Question Mid Blue Toe, are back in stores (hopefully in a city near you), but not for long. Word is, these are selling out quick. Crazy how they are still popular even after all the years. I remember back when these first came out; literally EVERYONE had a pair. Matter fact, they’re the only shoe I can think of to seriously rival the Jordan line while MJ was still playing! Not bad for a Reebok.

The latest version of NBA2k hits stores in about 2 weeks, but I just found out (yea, Im kind of late) Allen Iverson will make his return to the game via the Ledgends roster. If there wasn’t enough reasons to be excited for 2k13, here’s a little icing on the cake. I don’t need to tell you about the importance of A.I. and the 2k Sports series do I? He did grace the first cover ever, and probably is the games most popular player of all time. Here is a great write up with all those details.
But wait, does naming Iverson a video game “legend” officially shut the door on his NBA career? I hope not. Right now, however, I’m just happy he will be back in a Philly uniform rocking the questions (as seen above) even if it is only in the digital platform, and I know all his fans agree with me. I do have one issue, though. Why did they have to use the older, semi-washed up/nightclub/gambling addicted Iverson of his Detroit/Memphis days? He doesn’t exactly look to be in MVP form here.

“Reunited and it feels so gooood!” In case you were wondering what Iverson is up to, he’s now in China with Marbury. Supposedly he will be playing there this upcoming season…..but we will see how that works out. Could this lead to him returning to the NBA? Keep your fingers crossed.

One of the things I’m looking forward to most this upcoming NBA season is seeing how the whole Andrew Bynum “experiment” pans out in Philly. Bynum is already one of the most puzzling figures in the league. He’s like 24 with a head full of grey hair (that he apparently refuses to comb), and is about as unpredictable as he is talented. We saw flashes of his superstar potential last season in LA, even when he had to share the ball with Kobe and Pau, but the now Philly is essentially “Andrews team”. Recently, he said himself that:

“its a lot more exciting and a lot more fun knowing they (76er’s) are going to run the offense through you”

The way I see it, Bynum can be the best thing to happen to the 76er franchise since Allen Iverson. At his best, he can lead Philly to the top 3 spot in the East in 2013. At his worst he can be a “cancer”. I was a huge 76’er fan back during the Iverson era. It’ll be nice to start watching them again.

Allen Iverson sits down with Reebok’s Global VP of Classics, Basketball and Entertainment, Todd Krinsky, to discuss his latest shoe release, and various other topics such as being a style trendsetter, winning the NBA MVP award, and the infamous Tyronn Lue step over.
